Somló and Olaszrizling are inseparable. The Tornai family are expert of this variety and their meticulous work and experience brings out the best in Olaszrizling which shows harmony and elegance in their hands coupled with a distinct minerality that is the unique contribution of the volcanic basalt soils in Somló.
12 months ageing in oak barrels imparts a richness to the Szent Ilona Olaszrizling and despite its youth it already shows great form. Of course, it is still worth laying it down and age in bottle as it boasts a remarkable aging potential. Juicy pear, grapefruit and sophisticated oaky aromas are revealed on the nose. Vanilla, elegant oaky palate with citrus fruitiness in the background and some stony minerality. The acidity is round, but still gives freshness.
